Set in the mountains 90 km west of Mackay, Eungella National Park is Australia's largest continuous stretch of sub-tropical rainforest, and is one of the most beautiful of Queensland National Parks. Eungella National Park has more than 20km of walking tracks and is the starting point for the 56km Mackay Highlands Great Walk and from the viewing platform at Broken River, visitors often see platypus diving to feed. So whether you want to stroll with the family, walk for several hours, or set out on the Great Walk, there's something to suit all fitness levels. Eungella National Park is also one of Queensland's most ecologically diverse parks in Australia. Its plant species include species from both subtropical and tropical rainforests and is the ultimate haven for bird lovers with over 200 recorded bird species, it is the home of the Eungella honeyeater, one of five new Australian bird species discovered during the past 50 years.
