If you're planning a trip to Outback Queensland's Far West region, and you enjoy a good pie, then call in to the Birdsville Bakery. It's Birdsville's first and only bakery and probably the only licensed bakery in Australia! While in the bakery, spend some time looking through the quirky memorabilia and artwork by John Murray, one of the Outback's favourite artists.
Visitors travel far and wide to sample the exotic and traditional pies made on site including their award-winning curried camel, (awarded Gold at the Great Aussie Pie Competition in Melbourne). Most can't stop at one and will chow down on other favourites, kangaroo and claret, ale and tail or rabbit and lamb shank.
Need a beer with your pie? No problem! The bakery is Birdsville's exclusive stockist of the 100 per cent Australian owned Broo Beer.
The Birdsville Bakery is open daily between April and October from 6.30am until 4.15pm. Special dinner menus featuring their secret recipe BFC (Birdsville Fried Chicken), Lamb's Shank, are organised for groups and events too.
Drop in and meet owners Dusty and Jacko and ask them why they built their bakery. It's the most popular question and a great story! ...
